Russia v Sweden
Time Commentary
93' FULL TIME RUSSIA 2-0 SWEDEN
A thoroughly enjoyable performance from Russia and in particular that man Arshavin. Their quality of football shown in the first half an hour was up there with what the likes of Holland and Spain have produced so far and Guus Hiddink will really fancy his chances against his native Holland in the quarter finals - what a game that will be. Sweden were solid but unspectacular and were never really in this game. Still, another cracking game at Euro 2008 and the knockout stages will only get better.
90' WALKING IT
Again Arshavin breaks clear and the red shirts are lining up to tap home the ball, but they try to walk it in and Sweden clear.
90' SUB
Pavluchenko, scorer of Russia's first goal, is given a rousing reception as he leaves the field to be replaced by Vladimir Bystrov.
89' NEARLY THREE
The magician should score a deserved third for Russia as he beats the offside trap and closes in on goal but Hansson does well to distract him and Isaksson stands up to the shot.
86' ALL ABOUT ARSHAVIN
Russia looked like a fairly decent team in their first two games but hardly like world beaters. Tonight's been a different story though, and it's down to one man - Arshavin. He's a conductor, magician and playmaker rolled into one and looks to me like he's got the lot. With him, Russia could go far.
83' EXPOSED
Sweden are committing as many men forward as they can and are getting horribly exposed at the back. Pavluchenko again should score but shoots into the ground and Isaksson saves.
81' STRAIGHT AT KEEPER
Aniukov plays the ball inside to Pavluchenko who tries a boomer which if a yard either side of Isaksson would have been the third, but it's straight at him.
80' OFF THE POST!
Zyryanov bursts into life, breaking through the middle of Sweden's defence as Russian runners pull them apart, and his shot from 20 deflects off the post. That would have been game over, but Sweden still hang by a thread.
79' SWEDEN SUB
Left back Nilsson is withdrawn for striker Marcus Allback. Now or never for Sweden.
76' MILES OVER
Well that just about sums up Zlatan's night. He lines up the resulting free kick 25 yards or so out, but it's one for row ZZ.
76' BOOKING
Kolodin is the latest in the book for a strong challenge on Ljungberg.
74' FRESH LEGS
Powerful 25 yard drive from Kallstrom but it's always going wide and Russia can relax once more. Surely some fresh legs are needed for Sweden?
73' ZLATAN HEADER
Free header for Zlatan from a dangerous free kick but it's straight at Akinfeev. Time running out for Sweden.
70' AUDACIOUS
Zhirkov tries an audacious attempt from a free kick which is tight against the touchline on the right flank. Isaksson is worried but the ball drops on top of the net. Did he mean that? Course he did!
68' MISSING WILHELMSSON
Sweden are without doubt missing the lively presence of Cristian Wilhelmsson who had a great game against Greece before pulling his hamstring. They're so devoid of pace tonight - a team of old codgers.
67' NEARLY OWN GOAL
Stoor very nearly scores a comical own goal as his back pass to Isaksson is a little too heavy, but the keeper is alert enough to clear the danger.
66' SUB
Bilyaletdinov is replaced by Ivan Saenko as Hiddink reshuffles his pack.
65' BOOKING
Arshavin taints his majestic performance with a booking for a trip Larsson.
64' TOKEN SHOT
Nothing doing for Sweden here. Svensson tries a token shot from 30 yards as they struggle to create an opening, but it's well wide. Zlatan just hasn't had any impact on this game yet. Then again, he didn't against Greece before that wondergoal...
62' MELLBERG HEADER
Kallstrom floats an inswinging corner from the left which Mellberg rises to meet six yards out but he can't get over the ball and it doesn't trouble Akinfeev.
60' DODGY KEEPER
Stoor whips in a cross towards Akinfeev and he oddly decides to punch the ball clear when there wasn't a player anywhere near him. He looks pretty dodgy to me, but Sweden haven't tested him properly yet.
58' OVERHEAD KICK
From the resulting free kick Larsson tries an acrobatic overhead kick but there's no power on it an Akinfeev catches with ease.
57' BOOKING
Russia's captain Sergei Semak sees yellow for a tug on Henrik Larsson.
56' SWEDEN SUB
Maybe it'll come from Lyon midfielder Kim Kallstrom? He's got a sweet left foot and an eye for goal. Daniel Andersson is the man to depart.
54' TWO GOALS NEEDED
So Sweden's mission is clear - they need two goals or they're out of the tournament. Not sure where they're going to come from at the moment. They need some inspiration and fast.
50' GOAL! RUSSIA 2-0 SWEDEN
That is so so good. Russia double their lead with another awesome team goal. Bilyaletdinov releases Zhirkov who is playing like another striker, and he cuts the ball inside for that man Arshavin to slide the ball into the corner. Brilliant goal once again. Pace, precision, perfection.
49' BOOKING
Elmander is booked for kicking the ball away. He protests that he couldn't hear the whistle, but the ref doesn't want to hear any of it and books him anyway.
47' ZLATAN MAGIC NEEDED
Wonder how much longer Zlatan can last? He couldn't take more than 45 minutes against Spain, but Sweden desperately need him to light up their attack here. Marcus Allback just doesn't quite have the same pizzazz.
46' SECOND HALF
And we're off for the second half. No changes at the break.
45' HALF TIME RUSSIA 1-0 SWEDEN
Russia are full value for their lead for some enterprising attacking play, led by the brilliant Arshavin. Sweden will take heart from their end to the half though as they started to get some joy down the left. Their experience could prove vital in the tension-filled second half.
45' LUCKY BREAK
Nilsson bombs into the area and gets lucky as the ball rebounds off a Russia defender into his path but he can't take advantage as the shot is straight at Akinfeev.
44' LJUNGBERG SHOT
Best move of the game for Sweden as Zlatan takes Nilsson's pass and lays it off to Ljungberg who shoots low from 12 yards but Akinfeev does well to block. Promising moment for Lars Lagerback's side.
42' CHARMING PASS
Arshavin cuts inside from the left and switches the play with a charming pass to Pavluchenko, but his wild shot from 20 yards is over the top.
41' LUCKY BOY
Akinfeev flaps at a couple of Swedish crosses and nearly pays the price as he drops the second one, but Hansson can't get at the ball and the keeper gratefully collects.
40' NEED TO RE-GROUP
Five to go 'till half time and Sweden will be listening out for the whistle already. The need to re-group in the break and work out a game plan for the second half. At the moment they can't cope with the Russian attack and don't look like scoring themselves.
35' OFF THE BAR!
Russia's turn to hit the bar as they cut through Sweden with ease once again and Pavluchenko clips an effort against the bar from a similar spot to where he scored from. Zhirkov tries another long range boomer which Isaksson does well to palm behind for a corner, which comes to nothing. These Russians are seriously impressing.
34' CASE IN POINT
Elmander and Zlatan try to work something down the right but Elmander just kicks the ball straight out for a goal kick, thinking Zlatan would make a run. They look out of sorts.
31' STRUGGLING SWEDES
Sweden are struggling to string a few passes together and are resorting to a few long balls at the moment. You can never write off the Swedes though, they're hardworking and have a knack of scoring goals when they need them most. Russia will need to score again you feel.
27' OFF THE BAR!
Nilsson pushes forward down the left and clips a cross aiming for Larsson in the middle and his flicked header drops onto the bar. Warning sign for Russia.
26' NEARLY TWO
Zyryanov lays the ball off to Bilyaletdinov in the box but he stabs at his shot and it's wide of the post.
24' GOAL! RUSSIA 1-0 SWEDEN
Russia slice Sweden apart with a wonderfully slick move and they've got a derserved lead. Arshavin, Semshov and Aniukov combine for the latter to slot the ball to Pavluchenko who sidefoots home from 12 yards giving Isaksson no chance. Best 'team' goal of the tournament so far.
23' RARE FORAY
A rare foray forward from Sweden which sees Elmander get forward down the right trying to win a corner, but Zhirkov shows his defensive side as he knocks it off Elmander for a goal kick.
21' INCHES WIDE
Arshavin drifts wide and shows us that he's got a left foot as well as he clips a cross which flirts dangerously with Isaksson's net, but he tips over for another corner. Again the corner drops to Zhrikov who smacks a left footed volley inches wide. Getting closer...
19' ALL ABOUT ARSHAVIN
Literally all of Russia's play is going through Arshavin, who is popping up all over the park. They're getting plenty forward to support him as well, including both full backs on a regular basis. They win another corner which drops to Zhirkov 25 yards out but his shot is comfortably wide.
16' LONG RANGERS
A long range attempt from either side as Ljungberg and Arshavin go for the spectacular, but neither succeed. Arshavin looks like quite a player.
15' FIRMLY ON TOP
Aniukov and Arshavin combine to set up Pavluchenko on the right. His low, drilled cross finds Arshavin who flicks out a foot but can't find the target and the ball drifts wide. Russia firmly on top here, but they need a goal to reflect their dominance before Sweden come into the game.
13' FREE HEADER
Aniukov whips in a cross from the right which Arshavin meets with a free header as Mellberg goes missing, but it's directed just wide. Should have done better.
12' ELMANDER SHOT
Elmander tries his luck from 25 yards but it's high and wide. Open game so far, which may suit Russia.
11' BOOKING
Isaksson is the first man in the book tonight for refusing to give Russia the ball to take their corner. Semshov takes it but Sweden clear their lines.
10' LACK OF POWER
Anders Svensson lobs a dangerous long free kick into the box aiming for Zlatan, who does get his head on it but can't find the power to trouble Akinfeev.
7' SHOWING CLASS
Arshavin shows another glimpse of his class, taking on a couple of Swedish defenders with ease before trying to set up Bilyaletdinov. He lays off to Semshov in the box but Sweden get enough men back to block the move.
6' RUSSIA COMFORTABLE
Russia have made the better start here and are looking far more comfortable on the ball than Sweden. Zhrikov bombs forward down the left as he has done so effectively so far in the tournament, but Pavluchenko can't control his pass in the box.
3' WELCOME
Arshavin's first touch of the Championship is absolutely sublime as he somehow spots Pavluchenko from about 70 yards away and finds him with a raking pass. Hansson does well to intercept though.
2' OUCH
Sergei Ignashevich takes a whack in the head from Zlatan Ibrahimovic's dramatic boot. He's a bit groggy, but okay to continue.
1' KICK OFF
Sweden kick us off. Innsbruck is a cacophony of noise.
0' ANTHEMS
As seems to be the case with most national anthems, they reflect the stereotypical nature of the countries in question. Sweden, pretty inoffensive and to be honest slightly dull. Russia, grand and moody. Think I just about prefer the Swedish tune though.
0' RUSSIAN OMENS
A couple of omens for Russia as far as their history of getting past group stages go, one good and one bad. Russia haven't made it out of the last three group stages they've been involved in at the Euros, in 1992, 1996 and 2004. However, their boss Guus Hiddink has got past the group stages of every major international tournament he's managed at, including World Cups and Euro Championships. One of those records will have to change tonight.
0' YOUTH VS EXPERIENCE
Interestingly, Russia have the youngest squad of anyone in the tournament, and Sweden have the oldest. This also translates to total caps won between the players, where Russia are the most inexperienced and Sweden the opposite. So, will youthful exuberance or seasoned veterans win the day?
0' GOING FOR A WIN
Despite only needing a draw to go through, Sweden boss Lars Lagerback has promised that his side will be playing to win: 'We know a draw is enough, but the team selection will primarily be about giving us the best chance to play well and win', he said. Interesting mentality, the Swedes have always been renowned for shutting up shop quite well, like they did for all but 30 seconds of the second half in their loss to Spain. You get the feeling that the first goal will be crucial tonight.
0' PERMUTATIONS
As opposed to last night's complicated Group C permuatations, tonight is pretty straightforward. A Sweden victory or a draw and they will progress due to their superior goal difference. Only a win will do for Russia.
0' SWEDEN TEAM NEWS
No changes for Sweden as Ibrahimovic is passed fit to start and partners Henrik Larsson up front. Anders Svensson is their only man currently on one yellow card.
0' RUSSIA TEAM NEWS
Andrei Arshavin makes the starting line up, coming in for Dmitry Torbinsky in the only change for Russia from the side which beat Greece 1-0 last time out. Expect Arshavin to be given a creative role in the hole between midfield and attack. None of the starting XI are on a yellow card.
0' PREVIEW
The group stages of Euro 2008 come to a climax with another winner-takes-all game, Russia v Sweden. With the silky Spanish already through to the knockout stages, and the grotesque Greeks destined to finish bottom of the group, either Russia or Sweden will progress from Group D to face Holland in the next round. Guus Hiddink's Russia, like Sweden, lost to Spain and beat Greece in their first two games. They welcome back star player Andrei Arshavin into the fold today after he missed the first two games through suspension, although due to lack of match fitness he may be utilised from the bench. Lars Lagerback's star player for Sweden may also have to start on the bench as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently troubled by a knee injury. Either way, we're set up for another cracking game in Innsbruck.
