Netherlands v France
Time Commentary
93' FULL TIME
Holland have beaten France 4-1 in a performance that was perhaps even better than the Dutch demolition of Italy in the first game. Kuyt put Holland ahead in the first half but three amazing goals in the second half sealed the win and the group for the Netherlands. Van Persie finished off a great move on the break before Robben responded to Henry's close range goal with an absolute stunning finish from a ridiculously tight angle out on the left. It was Sneijder who capped off another amazing performance with an equally amazing goal, turning on the edge of the area and finding the top corner. France weren't as bad as in the first game, but are in serious trouble now after what turned out to be a very heavy defeat, by a very impressive and extremely entertaining Dutch side. It finished 4-1 to add to the string of fantastic games that we've seen in this tournament so far.
91' GOOAALL!!!
It's four for Holland. Van Persie skilfully found Sneijder on the edge of the area who turned his marker and fired in a brilliant shot into the top corner. What a goal and what a game! It's 4-1!
88' ROBBEN GOES CLOSE
Robben tucks inside and had a pop that beat Coupet all ends up but drifted just wide of the post. That was a great effort from the substitute that has rejuvenated Holland since the break.
86' OVER THE BAR
Ribery had a go with a free-kick in a great position, but curled his effort agonisingly over the bar.
85' SUPERB TACKLE
Anelka was almost clean through in the area but a superb tackle denied the substitute a golden goal-scoring opportunity.
83' ALMOST A FOURTH!
Van Bronckhorst fires another superb cross-field pass that almost finds Van Persie but the 'keeper was out in a flash to deal with the danger.
82' SO CLOSE!
Van Nistelrooy watches the ball come over his head and just flicks it on over Coupet. The ball looked like it was going to loop in but Coupet recovered to palm it past the post in the nick of time.
81' HENRY'S FURIOUS
Henry looked to have won a corner but the ref signalled for a goal-kick.
78' SUBSTITUTION
Bouma comes on for Van der Vaart as Holland look to hold on for the win.
76' EVRA GOES FOR GOAL
Evra attempted to join in with the stunning goal-fest and almost did just that, curling his shot just past the post.
74' ANELKA ON
Anelka comes on for Govou as France go for broke.
73' CHAOS AT THE BACK
It's chaos in the Holland box but nobody could get a shot away from France and somehow the Dutch cleared the danger. What an amazing game this is!
71' GOOAALL!!!
What a goal from Robben! The Dutch broke from the kick off and it fell to Robben on the left of the area. The winger beat Thuram on the outside and drilled in a shot from an impossible angle that fired into the roof of the net. What an amazing goal!!! It's 3-1!
70' GOOAALL!!!
Henry pulls one back for France. Sagnol burst down the right and pinged in a cross that Henry flicked home. It's 2-1!
68' CLASSY COUNTER-ATTACK
Sagnol dithered on the ball on the edge of the area and Holland launched another superb counter-attack. Robben almost latched onto the final ball to poke it past the onrushing Coupet, but the final defender just managed to get a touch to clear the danger.
65' HUGE BLUNDER
Thuram slipped on the ball and Van Persie took advantage bursting down the left, he squared the ball but nobody could get up in support in time and a fantastic chance went begging.
63' RAMPANT ROBBEN
Robben looks really up for this game and produces another chance out of nothing, forcing a good save out of Coupet.
61' FLAPPING 'KEEPER
Van der Sar paws at the ball and almost places it at the feet of the onrushing French attackers. The Dutch 'keeper was lucky to get away with that.
60' SUBSTITUTION
Gomis comes on for Malouda as France need to chase the game.
59' GOOAALL!!!
Holland go two up! It was another scintillating break, sparked by a great turn from Van Nistelrooy, continued by a great run from Robben and it was Robben's cross that found Van Persie on the back post to tap home. It's 2-0!
57' INTO THE WALL
Sneijder hits the wall from a free-kick, although the wall was only about four yards away.
55' SUBSTITUTION
Van Persie has come on for Kuyt to inject some creativity into the Dutch side and perhaps make them more dangerous on the break.
53' WHAT A MISS!
Malouda's overhead kick sent Henry clean through and the striker lobbed the 'keeper, but also the bar. What a chance and what a miss!
51' NEW POSITIONS
The Dutch have shuffled their positions after the arrival of Robben. Sneijder has moved into the hole with Van der Vaart dropping back into a deeper role.
49' BRILLIANT BLOCK
It's like pinball in the Dutch box before Henry connects from eight yards and is denied a block from Ooijer. Henry appeals for handball but the shot was hit so hard that a penalty would have been a harsh call.
48' POOR CHALLENGE
Van Bronckhorst goes in hard on Makelele to give the French midfielder a taste of his own medicine.
47' DANGER FROM FRANCE
Henry beat two men down the left and curled in a beautiful cross that Ribery just managed to get a toe to, but his effort went wide of the post.
46' SECOND HALF
The players are out and the second half is underway. Robben comes on after recovering from an injury to replace Engelaar for Holland.
45' HALF TIME
The whistle goes on a first half that produced some fantastic football, albeit not in the final 15 minutes. Holland are worthy of the lead, as they've played some great stuff at times and always looked the more likely team to score. The goal wasn't a classic, but Kuyt did well to lose his marker and power home Van Bronckhorst's decent delivery. The Dutch look like they will continue to dominate the Group of Death, as at half time the score is Holland 1-0 France.
43' POOR ATMOSPHERE
The crowd are quiet inside the stadium as the pace that we saw at the start of the half has died away.
42' SHOT ON THE TURN
Henry produces one of those moments of magic that characterised his time at Arsenal. The French front-man took the ball into feet, turned in the blink of an eye and fired in a shot that drifted just wide of the post.
39' CAGEY AND CALCULATED
The last five minutes have lacked the quality from Holland that we saw in the opening half hour, while France are still struggling to keep hold of the ball.
36' EASY SAVE
Sneijder has a go from distance but didn't get hold of it and it was a comfortable save for Coupet.
34' RIBERY'S RAMPAGING RUN
The French flair player makes a steaming run through the middle and pulls the trigger, but Van der Sar made the save look comfortably in the end.
33' TESTING SHOT
Govou fizzes in an effort from the edge of the area which Van der Sar does well not to spill.
32' YELLOW CARD
Makelele picks up a booking for a swinging arm that caught Van der Vaart in the face. It was unintentional so the French midfielder avoided the red.
31' POOR SHOT
Govou attempts a shot on the edge of the area when he had absolutely no time and space. Unsurprisingly the shot was blocked and easily cleared.
29' HENRY ON THE BALL
For only the second time in the opening half an hour, Henry looked dangerous, this time by lurking in his favourite position out on the left and cutting inside to cause panic in the Dutch defence.
26' CLASSY COUNTER-ATTACK
Another superb move from the Netherlands resulted in a chance for Boulahrouz of all people. The no-nonsense defender rampaged forward and got on the end of a Kuyt pass before firing a decent shot wide of the far post.
24' REAL QUALITY
Henry showed a glimpse of past glories there, flicking a return ball to Govou who should have done better, but was tackled comfortably by Van Bronckhorst.
22' FRENCH FLAIR
The French flair players have struggled to get into the game, but Govou almost produced something quality there, only to be denied by a good save by Van der Sar at his near post.
20' ALMOST A SECOND
Thuram fails to clear a straight ball through the defence and it falls to Kuyt. The goal-scorer should have made it two, but was stretching and his effort went over the bar.
19' NIGGLING FOUL
Makelele has a dig at Van der Vaart and gives away another foul. The French can't get near their Dutch opponents at the moment.
17' MOVE BREAKS DOWN
The Netherlands produce another great move but Van der Vaart's end product didn't live up to the quality of the build-up and his shot was blocked.
15' OVER THE BAR
Sneijder has a go from distance, but his effort was always rising and cleared the bar by some way.
12' OPEN THE GAME UP
That goal from Kuyt should really ensure this is a decent game as France have to come forward now and Holland will have more space on the break.
9' GOOAALL!!!
Kuyt puts Holland in the lead! Van Bronckhorst whipped in a corner from the right, Ooijer failed to connect, but Kuyt had no such problem and powered home the opener! It's Holland 1-0 France.
6' WIDE OF THE POST
Ribery flicked a header goal-wards, but it never looked like troubling Van der Sar and drifted wide of the post.
4' POOR DECISION
The ball comes off a Dutch foot and goes out for a corner, but the ref signals for a goal-kick. The man in the middle's having a madcap couple of minutes!
3' CONTROVERSIAL DECISION
Makelele bundled into Kuyt but, to the disbelief of the Dutch players, no card was shown.
2' FIERY START
It's been a bad-tempered affair in the opening minutes with a poor challenge from De Jong on the French playmaker Ribery the worst of the lot.
1' WE'RE OFF
The anthems have been belted out, particularly by the mass of orange shirted fans packed into the stadium, and France get the game underway.
0' FRANCE
Domenech is an eccentric manager to say the least, but even he could see that France lacked creativity in their opening game, so out go the lackadaisical Anelka and potentially dangerous Benzema and in come the fit-again Henry and inconsistent yet talented Govou. Elsewhere, Evra replaces Abidal, while Vieira only makes the bench.
0' HOLLAND
The Dutch will be full of confidence after their opening victory over the Italians and have decided not to change a winning formula as Van Basten sticks with the same starting line-up.
0' QUALIFICATION PERMUTATIONS
If the Netherlands win then they will qualify as group winners, while if it's a draw then the Dutch will need only a draw against Romania to guarantee their progress to the latter stages of the competition. The French cannot be knocked out even if they lose, but a defeat would leave them needing a win against Italy as well as a Holland result against a Romanian side that took four points off the Oranje in qualifying. So Raymond Domenech's side will be desperate for a win in this one to keep qualification in their own hands.
0' BIG MATCH PREVIEW
After the stunning game earlier it's time for France to try and get going in this tournament against the form-side of the opening round, Holland. France were uninspired and extremely disappointing in the draw with Romania and will need to be infinitely better if they are to compete against a Dutch side that ripped Italy apart on the break in what was probably the performance of the tournament so far. This could be a great game as France could really do with a win and may push forward, while the Netherlands are lethally dangerous when given space on the counter-attack.
