95' FULL TIME SWITZERLAND 1-2 TURKEY
The hosts are out. Fabulous finish to this game from Arda who has broken millions of Swiss hearts with a devastating winner. You have to feel for them, they gave it their all but it just wasn't enough. Turkey arguably played the better football though, and they go on to a winner-takes-all encounter against the Czech Republic on Sunday.
92' GOAL! SWITZERLAND 1-2 TURKEY
What drama! Arda breaks with pace for Turkey, cuts inside and unleashes a powerful shot which deflects off a defender and leaves Benaglio with no chance. The Turks go mad, the Swiss go silent. The hosts are out bar a miracle.
90' BLOODY ASIK
A nasty clash of heads between Derdiyok and Emre Asik with the Turk coming off worse - he has blood streaming down his face and needs treatment. The crowd think he's time wasting but I can assure you he isn't. Turkey now down to 10 men and we've got four minutes of stoppage time.
89' NICE MOVE
Nice move involving Kazim-Richards and Tuncay but the latter's low cross is cut out. Time for a winner?
87' MAGNIN FREE KICK
Switzerland win a free kick in a great position 25 yards out, but Megnin's left footed curler is deflected off the wall for a corner, which comes to nothing as Senderos is offside.
86' LATE CHANGES
Both sides roll their last throw of the dice. Turkey replace Nihat with Colin Kazim-Richards and Switzerland take off Yakin for Gygax.
84' WHAT A MISS
Incredible scenes and the Swiss have the chance they needed - but can't take it. They're four on three in a lightning quick break but Yakin's placed shot is clawed away by Demirel and Behrami can't force home the rebound. What a chance.

Turkey are currently on top but the Swiss defence is holding firm. Nihat is looking ominously dangerous. The crowd have suddenly gone pretty quiet and some fingernails are taking a right old nibbling.

The tension-o-meter is cranked up to 11 at the moment, you have to think that a draw isn't good enough for either side and defeat would spell the end of the tournament. A frantic last 10 minutes awaits...

Great opportunity for Tuncay who breaks free on the right of the area but he's in two minds on whether to cross to Nihat or shoot and in the end does neither. Disappointing finish.

Inler gets in a good position to shoot from 25 yards and despite his effort being obviously deflected wide the ref gives a goal kick. Frustration for the home side, who look to be running out of steam a bit. Can their supporters rouse them for one final push?

There's no doubt that the Turks possess the greater quality in their ranks but as yet they're not taking advantage. You can never write off the will of the home nation.

Nihat bends one from 20 yards and it's deflected behind for a corner, but the Swiss defence holds firm and clear easily.

Tranquillo Barnetta is substituted for Johan Vonlanthen. Well if you ask me that's a rubbish name.

Inler whips in a decent cross and the Swiss have two attackers on one defender, but neither can get a good contact on it and Demirel gratefully claims the ball.

This game has never been pretty but it's a full on scrap now. Winner takes all, loser goes home. Or in the case of Switzerland, stays at home.
61' SWISS PRESSURE
Good pressure from the Swiss as they look to re-take the lead immediately. A couple of corners culminate in a Magnin shot from 20 yards but it's comfortably wide.
57' GOAL! SWITZERLAND 1-1 TURKEY
Basel is completely stunned as substitute Semih Senturk grabs the equaliser. Nihat whips in a cracking cross and Senturk rises about the motionless Magnin and heads powerfully into the net via a weak attempt at a save from Benaglio. Terrible defending, but the Turks have come out attacking in this half and gained their reward. Game on!

Sterling run from Behrami who cuts around the back of the Turkish defence but his final delivery just evades the Swiss advance in the box.

Derdiyok is penalised for a foul on Altintop, and then booked for kicking the ball away.
54' SNUFFED OUT
Lovely football from the Turks who have stepped things up a gear since the break. Senturk nearly plays in Aurelio, who had broken from midfield, but there's just enough Swiss bodies in the way to snuff out the danger.

Yakin and Tranquillo Barnetta combine for the latter to shoot wide from a narrow angle on the left.
48' BOOKING
Turkey win a free kick in a promising position but from it Hakan Balta inexplicably sticks out an arm when a header could have given his side an equaliser. He more than deserves his booking, and a probably a good slapping with a wet fish as well.
46' SECOND HALF
A couple of half time subs for Turkey, Topal and Senturk replacing Karadeniz and Metin. The weather has improved in Basel and the groundsmen have been working on the pitch for the last 15 minutes - unless there's another downpour the game will finish.
45' HALF TIME SWITZERLAND 1-0 TURKEY
Fantastic entertainment in Basel - not exactly the purest game of football, but it's drama at the highest level. The rain continues to fall and I reckon the game would have been called off at most other levels of football. Switzerland have certainly coped better with the conditions though, and they're in pole position to bag the crucial three points.
44' BAD JUDGEMENT
The ref is loosing it a bit here. His judgement has remained the same throughout the game and he isn't allowing any leeway for the conditions which are making successful tackles a rarity. Every challenge is being awarded as a foul.
41' BOOKING
Mehmet Aurelio is the second Turk in the book for dragging back Behrami as the Swiss midfielder tries to run with the ball - an impossible task at the moment.
39' SHELLSHOCKED
Turkey look shellshocked since the goal. The rain is causing them big problems as their usually attractive style of play simply won't work on this surface.
36' CONDITIONS DETERIORATING
Tell you what the conditions are seriously deteriorating here and the rain shows no sign of abating. Much more of this and the ref will have a big decision to make. Think the traditionally neutral Swiss temperaments will be tested to the maximum if they're still winning and it's called off.

Behrami is free on the right and puts in a lovely cross right onto the foot of Yakin who is in an identical position to that of two minutes ago, but he someone angles the ball wide with the goal gaping. Incredible.

A long ball over the top finds Derdiyok who beats the offside trap, before drawing the Turkish defence and crossing to an unmarked Hakan Yakin four yards out to tap in. The heavy conditions made the ball stop dead before it reached Yakin, giving him an unmissable chance. Basel erupts.
31' FIRST BOOKING
Tuncay is the first man in the book tonight for a trip on Inler. Incidentally we have a Slovakian ref, Lubos Michel. Fair to say that's the only way Slovakia are going to be represented at a major tournament.
29' OFF THE POST!
Tuncay wins a free kick outside the area and on the byline, which Nihat curls into the danger zone, and Benaglio pushes the ball onto Arda and it rebounds onto the post. Dramatic moment, and I think we'll have a few more before the night is out.
25' DEMIREL UNBEATABLE
The magnificently named Tranquillo Barnetta (his parents must be so cool) bends a vicious free kick around the wall from 25 yards out but Demirel is equal to the task once again and saves well.
24' YAKIN DRILLS
Yakin produces the best moment for the Swiss so far as he drills a 20 yard shot towards Demirel's bottom right hand corner, but the keeper palms behind for a corner which is cleared.
23' SUMPTUOUS CROSS
Arda looks like some player - he dinks a sumptuous cross into the box which Tuncay so nearly gets on the end of, before there's an almighty scrap for the ball about three yards from goal which includes plenty of slipping and sliding around.
21' CROWDED OUT
Tuncay tries his best to force his way into the Swiss box but is eventually crowded out. Neither side on top here, it's still pretty cagey stuff.
19' INLER SHOT
Inler tries his luck from 30 yards which bounces awkwardly but Turkish keeper Demirel claims the ball at the second attempt. Worth trying a few long rangers in this weather.
18' HIGH STAKES
Still no shots on goal from either side. The stakes are so high, no one wants to concede any advantage to the opposition. The weather isn't helping things to be fair, it's seriously teeming down.
15' POOR DELIVERY
Set piece opportunity for the Swiss but Yakin's delivery is poor. Turkey are doing a good job of controlling the pace of the game here, they certainly don't want an end to end open game.
13' DRENCHED
The heavens suddenly open in Basel and players and fans alike are absolutely drenched already. Not dampening the Swiss supporters' spirits though, still an immense atmosphere here.
9' TURKEY CONFIDENCE
Turkey start to spread the ball around with confidence and diminutive midfielder Arda keeps possession nicely before crossing dangerously, but Benaglio claims well again.
6' CONFIDENCE BOOST
Nihat drills in a decent low cross but Swiss keeper Benaglio grabs a confidence-boosting claim at the feet of Tuncay.
4' EARLY PRESSURE
The Swiss force the early pressure, buoyed on by their fervent support. No shots yet though as both sides find their feet.
2' RAMIFICATIONS
So, a Swiss defeat here will see them dumped out of the tournament after just two games, while a win would put them level on points with the Czech Republic, as would a win for Turkey. A draw basically means that the Czech's are happy tonight. Is that clear enough?

Awesome atmosphere in Basel as the Swiss whip up a cracking atmosphere for this crucial game. The host nation get us kicked off, clad in red. The Turks are in their change white kit.
0' INJURY TROUBLES
There are crucial players missing on either side today. The Swiss are without talisman, captain and generally star performer Alexander Frei, who is out of the tournament with knee ligament damage. His place is taken by Hakan Yakin. Turkey are missing midfielder playmaker Emre is out with a hamstring strain.
0' ANTHEMS
Classic Eastern-European offering from the Turkish, full of deep trombones, very mean and domineering. The Swiss alternative is just as you'd expect, totally inoffensive but does the job. Very emotionally sung by the Swiss line up as well.
0' PREVIEW
Portugal's win over the Czech Republic simply amplifies the tension for this one. A win for Turkey or Switzerland here will put them level on points with the Czech's with the final round of games to come on Sunday. Both these teams suffered defeats on the opening day but neither looked out of their depth at this level so a good game is certainly in prospect here. That's without even mentioning the 'Brawl of Istanbul' of three years ago when, after a World Cup qualifying play-off that Switzerland just sneaked on away goals, the two sides decided to attack each other with serious ferocity as they ran to the changing rooms. That's ensured an extra police presence in Basel tonight, although surely the usually neutral Swiss will decline the offer of a mass scrap in the stands. Anyway, hopefully it'll all be about a feast of football as Euro 2008 well and truly gets going.
